What is Fit Mamas Club? Fit Mamas Club is a community of healthy, happy moms and their little ones. Participants rely on Fit Mamas Club to help them achieve two major new mommy milestones: 1) To get back into shape after baby, and 2) To meet other like-minded local mamas, share stories and support along the journey of motherhood. Our classes bring together all types of moms for fitness and fun. We offer a total body fitness experience to help new (and not so new) moms re-shape after baby. And every class not only welcomes your child to be part of the program, it promotes interaction during the workout offering a fun, new way to bond with your little one. Is Fit Mamas Club a franchise? No. We are owned and operated by a Chicago mom. Our classes are more affordable and we NEVER charge a membership fee or other initiation fee to get started. You only pay to attend our classes. We don't have to teach based on a required class formula which allows us to consistently deliver new and exciting new workouts based on a variety of techniques - taking inspiration from traditional calisthenics, aerobics, resistance and strength training to Pilates, Yoga, infant movement and more. Who can participate in a Fit Mamas Club class? Mamas Our classes are uniquely designed to help you achieve and exceed your fitness goals - all while having fun with your little one, regardless of your fitness level. ANY mom can attend our classes. Start at your own pace then let our instructors suggest intensity variations to ensure each program element is safe and effective for your fitness level. Some classes are designated for beginner or intermediate levels vs. more advance participants to help you select the session that's right for you. Please be sure you've been given the proper postpartum medical clearance from your doctor or midwife to participate in physical activity prior to participating in our classes. And remember, always consult your doctor before starting this or any exercise program. Babies + Toddlers It's a good idea to wait until your little one is at least six weeks of age (or slightly more if you've had a c-section) before you begin a class (more for mom's sake). For our outdoor stroller fitness classes, as long as your baby or toddler is content being in a moving stroller for about an hour, you both will enjoy participating our classes. Our indoor sessions are tailored to accommodate various ages - from six weeks up to preschool age to help you select the right fit. Please note, the degree to which babies are incorporate into each class will vary with each fitness discipline. What if I have twins or more than one child? The more the merrier! Our founder is a mom of twins who started the company when her little guys were only a few months old. For our outdoor classes, you'll just need a bigger stroller : Indoor class descriptions note whether the host space can accommodate more than one child and most do. Registration fees are always the same regardless of how many children you bring along! I'm not in great shape. Will a Fit Mamas Club class be too difficult for me? Every mama has to start somewhere! The majority of our exercises can be modified to suit your needs. It's paramount that you pay attention to your own body's cues and get the best workout you can. While on the subject, some of the moves our instructors demonstrate are targeted to newer moms. So, if you feel you are in need of some more advanced attention, simply ask! We're happy to show you higher intensity modifications to ensure your personal goals are met. What should I bring to class? OUTDOOR SESSIONS - Your stroller and your child - A towel, yoga mat or waterproof blanket for core/mat exercises and playtime - Water - A hat and sunblock for you and baby - Snacks and toys for your little one INDOOR SESSIONS - Your child (if you have a wee one, we suggest bringing an infant carrier so baby is safely secured during class) - A yoga mat for core exercises - Water - A few of your little one's favorite toys (just in case!) No special fitness equipment is required. Your instructor will provide resistance tubing for use during toning exercises in class. ATTIRE: Dress just as you would for a trip to the gym - comfortable athletic shoes and a supportive sports bra are highly recommended! Our spring/summer season classes are all taught outside so be sure to bring layers for both you and your child. Do I need to own a jogging stroller to participate in your "Walk it Off" outdoor stroller classes? No. You don't need any special type of stroller to take our classes (though a jogging stroller does make things move a lot easier). Just be sure your stroller is stable - not prone to tipping - and that baby can be safely secured inside. We do not recommend small, collapsible umbrella strollers. To see results, how often should I take a class? As often as you can! In the summer, we offer our outdoor classes several times per week and recommend you join us 2-3x/week for best results. But if you can only make it once a week - such as our indoor class series - that's okay too. The key to getting back into shape and staying fit is consistency. Decide the frequency that's best for your schedule and stick with it…that's the most important thing you can do. We also sell the same high-quality resistance bands we use in class along with a handout full of great moves you can do at home - perfect for keeping that momentum all week long! Can I participate in your classes if I'm pregnant? Yes. We welcome prenatal participants and will work with you on an individual basis to demonstrate proper form and safe exercise modifications for use in exercise throughout all trimesters of your pregnancy. What happens if the weather is bad? Is class cancelled? During our spring/summer outdoors series, we never operate a class in severe or unsafe weather (heavy rain, lightening, significantly high or low seasonal temperatures)…but, a little drizzle never hurt anyone. We recommend you dress in layers and bring a stroller cover designed to shelter your child in case of light rain and/or wind. If uncooperative weather causes us to cancel a class, we will post a "weather cancellation" update on the home page of our website at least one hour beforehand on the scheduled class day. It is the responsibility of the class participant to check our site before heading out for class if the weather appears questionable. If you are unsure of the status of class on a particular day, feel free to call us at 773-450-7721. Please note, our fall/winter indoor classes are never cancelled due to weather unless extremely heavy snow creates unsafe road conditions. If this occurs, you will receive an email from your instructor. What is your make-up policy? In the event an outdoor class is cancelled due to weather, you may make-up the class by attending another day during the week when conditions have cleared (for instance, if you are registered to join us one weekly on Mondays, you can simply join us any other day of that week as an alternate). All make-up must be completed within the current session. Unlimited class packages are not offered make-up sessions. If you miss your scheduled make-up, no other opportunity will be permitted. Make-up availability for indoor classes varies and will be explained at the time of class confirmation. What if my little one starts to fuss or cry during class? Attending to the needs of your baby is, of course, priority number one. Our classes are designed to engage with your child throughout. As a result, we find most little ones are very entertained by our workout routine. Our indoor classes are held in partnership with child-friendly businesses with ample space to tend to your child. Our outdoor route takes us by smaller play lots, parks, benches and other grassy spots and we stop often during our power walk for strengthening exercises so you can always take a break, if necessary, to soothe, nurse, feed, or change your child. Just let your instructor or another participant know you're making a pit stop and you can meet back up with the group at our destination spot. To participate in the Fit Mamas Club after-class playgroup or mama's night out, must I have attended the fitness class? No. Our playgroups are indended to be a no-cost, "bonus" feature of participating in our classes. It allows our mamas to spend even more time getting to know each other while providing babies and toddlers with a fun-filled reward for sticking with us throughout the workout! We encourage all of our mamas to join us for these after-class playgroups, however, they are optional. Mama's night out functions are open to anyone who's taken a Fit Mamas Club (past or current) and may have costs associated with them (paid directly to the venue) to cover food and drink specials, etc. |
